The Faculty of Music accounts for over 600 of the higher education (HE) students within Trinity Laban and delivers programmes of study for students from pre-degree to doctoral levels through an innovative combination of practical and academic studies through which it seeks to impart in its students the skills needed for a dynamic and sustainable career in the music profession.

The Musical Theatre Department seeks to appoint a suitably qualified candidate to an hourly paid, part-time permanent teaching position with effect from 2 September 2024.

Teaching Hours: negotiated yearly

Teacher of Singing (121): Contemporary Musical Theatre

Candidates will be nationally recognised and highly respected teachers/performers, usually with a distinguished record in teaching and/or delivering masterclasses within the conservatoire sector or higher education sector more widely. Applicants should be equipped to teach students studying within the musical theatre department, understanding the full breadth of techniques, repertoire and styles required to meet current industry expectations and standards. Teachers should be able to teach to an exceptional level of technical and musical competency, and to sustain students’ emotional and musical needs over an extended period.

The successful candidate will represent an important addition to Faculty expertise in Musical Theatre and will join us at a time of demonstrable growth to, and increasing recognition of, the learning opportunities provided by the Department of Musical Theatre.

Following success in the Institution’s first formal research submission (REF) our strategic priorities are the development of a practice-led research hub with specialisms in creative practice/performance, performance science and performance pedagogy as well as text-based research in our disciplines; the further integration of our research and knowledge exchange/public engagement programmes; and increasing our research collaborations, seeking particularly to engage international partners. The Faculty of Music is committed to encouraging research-informed teaching; you will be encouraged to develop your skills in line with this ethos.

Educated to at least Master’s degree-level (or professional equivalent), you will have proven higher music education teaching experience, strong or emerging research interests in musical theatre, outstanding communication and organisational abilities, excellent IT skills and the capability to deal with a busy and varied workload, within a highly creative environment.

As an equal opportunity employer we positively encourage applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity.

Please note all applications submitted will be shortlisted anonymously by our recruiting panel, so please ensure that your name and personal details are not included to the supporting statements answers, otherwise we will not be able to consider your application.
